Jim Van Steenhuyse

Branch Manager

Jim began his investment industry career in 1979 as a financial advisor with E.F. Hutton in Chicago. In 1986, he was recruited to be the Branch Manager of the PaineWebber office in Walnut Creek, California. Within 10 years, the office expanded three times and quadrupled its production.

In 2000, Jim was named manager of the Phoenix and Sun City offices of PaineWebber, which was later acquired by UBS Financial Services. History repeated itself in Phoenix, with a number of expansions and revenue growth. UBS promoted Jim to Complex Manager, covering Arizona, New Mexico, and Las Vegas, and he later became a Market Area Manager for Arizona and New Mexico. His coaching style and recruiting efforts helped grow the region’s revenue dramatically.

Jim joined Stifel in 2018 as a Managing Director, Arizona Region, to support the firm’s advisor recruiting efforts. Under Jim’s management, he has expanded and established new facilities in Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Tucson. He also helped open the first Stifel office in New Mexico in the fall of 2020.

Stifel has added nearly 500 advisors in the last five years, thanks in large part to the advisor-centric culture the firm has worked so hard to build and maintain. Stifel’s management team leads by example, communicating their mission with clear vision and transparency. This environment and culture play a crucial role in helping our advisors build long-term client relationships.

Jim earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. In his senior year at Loras, he was elected captain of the football team, which was ranked second in the nation. Jim holds Series 7, 9 & 10, 63, and 65 securities licenses and was a board member and past president of Southwest Human Development, an organization dedicated to creating a positive future for young children. His daughter, Kelly, is a second grade teacher in the Paradise Valley Unified School District. Jim and his, wife, Peggy, enjoy working out, hiking, and walking with Tessa, their Bedlington Terrier.
